The Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Entomology and Plant Pathology offers numerous opportunities for students. The major leads to a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry. There are over eleven concentrations for a student to pursue. The curriculum provides a strong background in science as part of a liberal education and also prepares the student for professional work and/or graduate study. The curriculum is well suited for students considering a medical degree. In fact, a recent survey of medical school faculty, residents, and medical students gauged the importance of topics to a students' success in the current medical school curriculum and the curriculum as it is likely to be 5 years from now. The survey found that biochemistry ranked as the most important discipline compared to other natural science curriculums.
